Thanksgiving Surprise!

We had quite the treat on Thanksgiving! It snowed!! Our area of Japan almost never sees snow, so this was amazing! We stayed inside and sipped hot cocoa and thought about our friends and family back home. Here is a video I took out our front door:

Adorable Bear Ramekin

Japanese bakeries never fail to impress. We went to one near our house tonight and got this! It's a cute chocolate dog face in a ceramic bear ramekin that you get to keep! How awesome!

Ding Dong Ditch?

So something a little odd happened this morning. We were sitting downstairs on the couch, just enjoying the morning, and we hear the doorbell ring. I glance out the window and I see a little old Japanese lady walking away. We go to the front door but she is long gone. We look around, check the inside of the mailbox, thinking maybe she dropped something off. There wasn't anything anywhere. No idea what that was about. Oh well!

Hawk Moth!

Found some pretty big caterpillars which turned out to be convolvulus hawk moth caterpillars. They are common throughout most of the world, except north and south America. These guys were happily munching on flowers, getting fat so they can morph big and strong.

They will eventually turn into this:

Japanese Animal Crackers

These are interesting! The animal shapes of these crackers are a bit blobby, so they label them. But the labels are so unique! When was the last time you saw a rat or peafowl in a box of animal crackers? And what is a M. Duck?? Does it stand for mallard? I have no idea!

Tomato Candy

I first heard of this tomato candy on the internet, and was able to find some in town! It's delicious! Jonathan didn't really like it, but I love it. It tastes just like Campbell's tomato soup. Yum!
