Japanese Food Pyramid

We got a newspaper in our mailbox yesterday, and this caught my eye:  it's the Japanese food pyramid (or spinning top, rather). It shocked me because it lists fruit at the very bottom with dairy, meaning it gets the fewest daily servings. Wow! I dug into this to try to find out why Japan suggests only 2 servings of fruit per day (I couldn't find any reason other than the fact that they do), but in doing so I ran across food pyramids from countries around the world. Very interesting! Japanese people have long life expectancies, among the highest in the world, however cancer and heart disease are the top two causes of death in the country. I think I'm gonna eat all the fruit that I want!
